As the seniors took their final regular season steps onto the basketball court at Tex Turner, the Railsplitters were both jockeying for position in the SAC conference. For the men, they were working on being one of the only undefeated SAC regular season champions. On more present matters, the Lady Railsplitters were fighting for fifth place in the conference.
As they have come to do on regular occasion, the LMU men continued to dominate the conference with a 95-73 victory over Catawba. Gerel Simmons continued his hot shooting streak, scoring 26 points while shooting 71 percent from the field.
The Lady Railsplitters clinched the fifth seed in the SAC Tournament with a 62-58 victory on Saturday. The seniors were on full display during the game, with Kiara Rawls and Britney Guy leading the team with 14 and 13 points, respectively.
While seniors were preparing to take their regular season steps on the court in Tex Turner Arena, vendors were also settling in for the Relay for Life food sale. In addition to that, there was a silent auction in support of the athletic department.
Even though there were several events taking place, many of them ran themselves. I occasionally was sent to check on the silent auction, but low attendance prevented the auction from being too busy. Food vendors also kept themselves under control.
The majority of my duties came during the senior night ceremonies, where I assisted in putting the framed jerseys in the right place. I also was in charge of getting food to the refs after the game.
