There comes a time when everyone bites off a little more than they expected. During Tuesday's game management meeting, the LMU Athletic Department began having similar feelings. It was time to prepare for what has jokingly been referred to as "Super Saturday." This Saturday, there are six scheduled home events - a baseball double-header, men's and women's lacrosse and men's and women's basketball.
With all three sport facilities located within the same vicinity, security was the biggest concern during the meeting. Parking could become an issue with several promotions being promoted during each event.
LMU Police doesn't have a large amount of officers within the department, meaning officers are likely to be spread thin on Saturday as well. This meant we had to come up with a plan to manage the officers we had available and establish priorities. Ultimately, it was decided the officers would focus on basketball and baseball while Matt Green tries to handle any issues with lacrosse.
Staff is another issued that was addressed during the meeting. With a limited number of student workers, a plan had to be developed to utilize the numbers we had. Green volunteered to handle statistics for lacrosse. I will be spotting on the field during lacrosse and radioing penalties to the press box so we could free up an individual to work elsewhere.
In the end, each position was filled and handled. Pending on weather conditions, four of the six games may be cancelled because of field conditions and extremely low temperatures on Saturday.
