With the NCAA Division II tournament about to get underway, two meeting were held tonight. The first meeting was for coaches and administrators of teams in the tournament with the second meeting being for referees. Because Lincoln Memorial is hosting the Southeast Region of the tournament, we were present for both meetings.
The first meeting outlined some of the activities and information needed for the games. For example, during the national anthem, teams will line up along the free-throw line facing each other. After the anthem ends, teams will meet at the center of the court to shake hands. Teams will have no interaction with the refs before the games. Others items such as the official game clock and shoot-around times were also addressed during the first meeting.
The second meeting pertained to how the officials will conduct themselves during the game. Officials were urged to make all calls by the book. NCAA officials also explained to refs about potentially working the Elite Eight.
