With the wind blowing, creating a chill in the alleged 62-degree air, I sat down at the table field side for the LMU men's lacrosse match against Notre Dame de Namur. With a two-way radio in hand, I took a seat to began doing my job for the game. Similar to other lacrosse matches, I was set to record penalties and radio them up to the press box for stats.
The game itself ran smoothly. There were no major issue with the exception of a view miscommunication issues between the refs regarding players and penalties. There was also a scoreboard issue with the time lapsing every six seconds, which surprisingly didn't cause many issues with the exception of release times.
The Railsplitters cruised to victory over the Argonauts 22-7.
The lacrosse game did not start my day however. At approximately 9 a.m., the rest of the athletic administrators and myself took part in a fairly long game management meeting. This week, Lincoln Memorial hosts the Southeast Region of the NCAA Division II Tournament. We were awarded this honor for ranking first in the southeast region as well as a second place ranking nationally in men's basketball.
In addition to the tournament, there are also two lacrosse games on Saturday as well as a couple of baseball and softball games throughout the week. The biggest issue addressed was staffing. With the NCAA Tournament lasting the majority of the day on Saturday and Sunday, staffing other events instantly became difficult. The issue was eventually solved after a few favors were called in on behalf of the associate athletic director.
Ticket design, sponsors, and locker room coordination were also discussed during the meeting. It was interesting to see how much time and detail went into ticket design. A color change here and there really made a different in how the ticket appeared. Small details such as dates and logo placement also made a huge difference in appearance.
By the time the meeting concluded, ticket design was completed. Hotels arrangement for parents and a few sponsor issues were still on the table, but there are plans to clear those up later in the week as the event approaches.
