Today marked the first day of my journey as an intern at LMU University. It was a very short day for me. Matt Green, Cameron Whicker and Scott Erland met inside an office to further discuss my duties and responsibilities throughout the internship. Me and Matt originally met shortly before Christmas to briefly talk about my hours and duties, but Cameron and Scott were not present. In today's meeting, Matt made me aware that I would be working on Mondays and Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to noon. I will participate in management meetings on Monday and work on projects on Wednesdays. I will also be attending games and special events as necessary.
During our conversation, Matt also made me aware of a special that I will be coordinating later in the year. I will help plan, design and coordinate the year end banquet for all the sports teams. With Matt wanting the event to resemble the ESPYS, I will be doing research to understand and plan the event. Matt and I also discussed the budgeting process, which I will play some role in according to him. He didn't discuss exactly what my role would be.
After Matt and I spoke, Cameron explained that I would be working in promotions and game management during games. He didn't dive into it too much, but he did state that I would be wearing many hats while assisting him. Scott said that I would be writing preview stories and post-game releases. I will also write feature stories including Player of the Week - a new feature for the athletic communication office.
Next week, I will begin my regular schedule with the university.
