In a rare Thursday night game, the LMU Railsplitters squared off against conference foe Tusculum. With snow impacting the area, the arena was surprising full for the occasion. Over the previous couple of days, the area saw six to eight inches of snow mixed with ice. In addition to those watching in attendance, those who didn’t want to brave the snow and ice got the chance to watch the game on MYVLT (the sister station to WVLT). Both the men’s and women’s team came out on top of one-sided victories over the Pioneers.
The games served as more than just a night of basketball. During halftime of the men’s game, we announced the Abe’s Excellence Award winners. This was a new idea for recognizing athletes with a GPA of 3.5 or higher. This included over 100 student-athletes. We handed out certificates at half court for each one of them.
There were also several other raffles that took place on Thursday, including a drawing for a free IPad. There was a shoot for cash promotion as well.
Earlier in the day, I performed several of my normal duties to prepare for the event. Matt Green, Cameron Whicker and myself helped set up the hospitality room. We had the broadcast of the game playing on the television for those who remained in the room while the game was being played. Before arriving at the arena, I picked up the food order from Food City.
