Entering tonight's game, the LMU men's hoops team was chasing history. An effective offensive scheme and multiple highlight reel dunks from Emanuel Terry allowed the Railsplitters to easily dispatch Brevard, 88-55.
With the victory, the LMU men's team holds the record for the best SAC start with a 15-0 mark. The victory also gave the fifth-ranked Railsplitters the longest SAC winning streak in league history. The victory marked LMU's 250th all-time win at Tex Turner Arena as well.
The women's team had an impressive showing as well, defeating the Tornadoes, 81-44.
While both teams performed extremely well on the night, the athletic department was getting ready to host a small celebration of their own. We were celebrating the 25th anniversary of the first game ever played in Tex Turner Arena. Throughout the night, we honored a few individuals that had been involved with the department since the day Tex Turner opened 25 years ago.
First, former women's coach and athletic director Roger Vannoy got to hand the official the game ball at the beginning of the women's game. During halftime of the men's game, we had to round up the next group of individuals that were being honored. They included Rusty Peace (who has announced or broadcasted the majority of LMU games since the arena opened), Director of Statistics Bill Porter, and Vannoy.
We had several dance teams perform during the two halftimes as well. In addition to helping gather the honorees, I performed my typical game day duties, such as picking up the food and getting the refs settled in after the game - bringing them food and drinks after the game.
