One of the first things AD Matt Green told me before I officially started my mentorship was his interest in me coordinating an ESPYS-type award ceremony/banquet. After over two months, we are less than a month away for the event that was officially named the Lincoln Awards during today’s meeting. While many schools who perform similar awards banquets stick to names like the WUSPYS or the FROSTYS, we decided to make our event more like of a cross between the ESPYS and the Oscars.
With that in mind, we discussed designs for a potential trophy for winners. Each person in the meeting agreed that the trophy should resemble a “sporty Abe Lincoln.” The trophy will more than likely be designed in-house and then shipped for creation.
We also discussed the nominations for each award category: Game of the Year, Male and Female Newcomer of the Year, Male and Female Breakthrough Player of the Year, Female and Male Performance of the Year, Upset of the Year, Play of the Year, Female and Male Team of the Year, and Female and Male Athlete of the Year. Each category received four or five nominations. After the voting commences, the video package for each award will contain the top three nominations. Production for the event was discussed as well with the head of Sigmon Communications.
As for my job throughout this process, I will be in charge of writing the scripts for each presenter. In addition to that, I have been charged with working with Sigmon on collecting the necessary footage for the video packages. With the banquet being a red carpet event, it will be important to make sure everything flows smoothly. I will began writing the scripts for each presenter ASAP and will have a meeting with Sigmon next Wednesday to begin collecting the necessary footage.
